I uploaded the above image from Ebay just a few short minutes ago. I wanted to prove a point.

A few of you have said,

"Christy, can you do like they do on that t.v. show Extreme Couponing on TLC"?

"Christy, how do these women get Tide and steaks with their groceries and still only pay pennies?"

I tell everyone the truth. That is television. If it didn't seem exciting, there would be no ratings; hence no t.v. show.

What they are NOT showing you is that in reality these people are paying for coupons on ebay. They are buying coupons that will give them overage ( which ofcourse is illegal and they don't tell you that part. ie: if something costs $1 and your coupon is for $2 off, if the cashier doesn't catch it or just approves it you get $1 credit toward the rest of your groceries.)

So, if you were going to be on national television and want to make the best impression, you could potentially go on ebay and buy 30 coupons for the $2 off Country time lemonade that are on sale for $1 and you just made $30 towards the rest of your groceries. BUT the little con artists didn't tell you they spent $30 on the coupons to begin with.

In the Mega Sale coming up at Kroger this week Vitamin Waters are $0.75 each. At the price above you would be paying $0.64 each anyways And the auction still has more than an hour left!

I happen to love Kroger. Kroger is the ONLY place I will buy my groceries. It's no secret how much I hate SkankMart. I haven't been in 7 months and I am never going back. I don't care if they are handing out money. I will not support them any more!

I just hope that in all this hype and b.s. these people don't ruin it for the rest of us. Kroger knows whats going on but these ladies walk in there with 1000 PAID for coupons and it's like a shock and awe war campaign! They get so confused they just give them the credit and these ladies walk out feeling proud of themselves for ripping Kroger off and fooling you too.

I had to work in Charleston this morning and had a bit of time to kill so, I stopped at Kroger in St. Albans (secretly hoping to score q's for the upcoming mega deal, no go) and did my first transaction.I did two more transactions today in Ashland. I wasn't going to but I just couldn't pass up the Coke deal. No pics, as I have put it all away.

1st transaction:

I did 2 seperate transactions. Too lazy to break it down. The Wisk was $1 for a 12 load size. I used the $2 off coupon found on bottles. Pepsi 6pks. were 5 for $10. I used (2) $1/2 found on bottles. Anyways, I got 92 items for $32.40. I averaged 85% savings! I even bought 3 items from the deli!

I finally broke down and went to kroger yesterday. I wouldn't have made the effort if it weren't for the fact that we were out of beverage and Marv was hitting up the corner store and paying $1.59 for a 2 liter. UGG!!

Well, look what the cat drug in...lol.

This should really come as no surpirise to anyone that I have been hibernating these last 2 months.

I checked my archives (bottom left) and I seemed to be vacationing just about this time last year. Only one post from the end of March to the end of May.

I have no excuse for not posting. I just didn't feel like it. I also did not feel like going grocery shopping and today was the first shopping trip I have made other than a quick Heiners run and milk at Foodfair for Sunday morning breakfast.

Enough about me....

First, Evan had a birthday at the end of April. He turned seven and I thirty five. Below is a pic of him with my birthday present.

Then, Destiny had Senior prom and graduation. Wow!! Congratulations again baby girl!

Most everyone knows that I don't work in the summer. I cut back to one day a week while Evan is out of school. Frankly, I don't want to pay for daycare and Marv is dead set against it! But I don't mind. I like having the break and I like working for a place that allows me to take said break.

I have been working 16 hours of overtime every other week that Marv is off, trying to catch up and/or get a little ahead, which seems impossible.

We bought this car.

Obviously a fixer upper ... LOL !

It's an '05 Malibu with 45,000 miles and a salvage title. We got a stellar deal from 239 Auto Group just outside of Porstmouth. We bought our mini van there several years ago for cheap and we are still very pleased with it!

Destiny bought this car.

It's wrecked too. LOL. We found it on craigslist in Portsmouth. One previous owner who's daughter hit a pole on the front passenger side. It's a 2001 Daewoo Leganza with 97,000 miles and we paid $450 for it. We are hoping to have another $300 in DIY repairs.

And I'm posting this below pic just because it's fun for me and I am a little curious how long it will take before it gets back to me and I get in trouble....LOL

I am beyond trying to figure out the bug with the comments section!!! I have tried editing templates, html etc. I even put in a new html code to use disqus and that isn't cutting the mustard either. Grandview Grocery Outlet

Most of us know about the Grandview Weekend Outlets, where you can scour for a bargain on all sorts of things. Kinda like a flea marketers dream!

Well, now they have opened a Grocery Outlet. I killed a few minutes before getting Evan off the bus today, just to comparison shop. A few things I noticed is that they are 95% name brand and cheaper than the grocery store with alot of variety and sections.

A few bargains (not as good as we can get with coupons) I noticed were Propel priced at $0.59, Gatorade 32. oz. for $0.59 also and the 64 oz. size was $0.99. Kelloggs cereals were $1.50 each and they had Mountain Dew Ultra Violet 20 oz. 4/$1. Deer Park & Nestle Bottled water for $0.15 each !!

McCormicks spices were $0.50 each and the McCormicks Sauce envelopes (ie. Hollandaise Sauce) just $0.29 each.

They had a health care section and tons of candy & chocolates. I bought Wonka Gummies for $0.39 each. My only purchase but will check in often!

Operating hours are Thursday - Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

I can guarantee they are limited to what they have in stock. Don't expect to get the same items each time. They are a closeout store, just like Big Lots.

22 Reeses Dark Choc. Peanut Butter Cups on rollback for $0.50 each. Used (22) $0.55 off Reeses Dark Choc. from insert.

5 Old Spice Body Wash (trial size 1.7 oz.) $0.97 each. Used $1 off Old Spice BW 1.7 oz or higher from P&G insert.

*I set out some coupons to combine with the Old Spice BW but lost them?? Maybe Dee will be on and can share the deal scenario, as I forgot. I know it combines this coupon with a Gillette coupon or maybe it doesn't...LOL

Overage was applied from the Reeses and BW coupons and I paid $1.51 OOP!!!

He was unsure of how to refund my money and discussed it with the mgr. I told them 3 seperate times that I had used (2) $1 off coupons and that they owed me $2.38. The mgr. said since I would have gotten it free with coupon, to refund the full purchase price. I told him again that was incorrect but they insisted upon giving me $4.38 back and they did. I felt a little guilty but I told them several times!

Anyways, I paid $2.45 initially and got back $4.38 in return!

Kmart has an awesome coupon here for $10 off a $20 purchase. This can be combined with other coupons BUT your total must be $20+ AFTER your other discounts.

I am sure this coupon will not be up very long, despites it's long expiration date (05/15/10) so, be sure to print it now or at least save it to file since it is in pdf format! Heck, save it anyways, as there are no restrictions to how many you can print. Coupon does not state "one per person". However, it does say "one per transaction." Coupon can also be used on clearance items!

First, a little secret. For the past few weeks I have been getting the Columbus paper. Kendall, who works with my man, has been gracious enough to buy and hold them for me. A couple of ladies here split the cost with me and we are SOOO very thankful to her for providing us with this favor! The Columbus Dispatch provides much better coupons than our little city inserts. My man said this is cheating. "Since I am Tri-State Saver, I should blog only on coupons provided to the tri-state area." This is untrue. Yes, WE are all Tri-State Saver but that entails saving the most money we can by any legal means we can. Hence, I have the means to score the better coupons, you bet your bottom dollar I am going to utilize it.

Kendall shot me an email this evening featuring an article she saw on MSN. You can read that here. It is chock full of great money saving tips, blogs and other useful information. I highly recommend it. It's a good read.

What I want to point out are some of the comments. The "doubters" we will call them. This first comment is priceless. The entire thing is false and I think someone is jealous!

I almost wasn't going to justify these comments with my own comment, especially since we know better, are you laughing as hard as I was?

I work the daily grind just like 80% of other Americans, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. Without the grocery savings I can receive, I would be working 2 jobs or at least picking up all the over time I can get my hands on and I use to. It was nothing for me to pull 70 hours a week with one day off a month. That is until I learned how to get my grocery budget under control. Saving $600 a month is basically keeping me from acquiring a part time job and I am thankful for it!

No, most markets will not double coupons over $1 but Kmart will (even up to $2!) and thankfully they are bringing it back! Dee shot us an email of this weeks participating stores. Ours isn't in it but it is a good sign to see it making a come back and we can bet on seeing it in our area again! I hope sooner than later, we have scored some major freebies and overage with super doubles!

Yes, I buy alot of junk and processed foods but that is because we like it. I also buy alot of healthy foods and thats because we like those too. It's true that you don't see alot of "organic" coupons but they do exist and if that's your thing snatch them up in abundance when you do see them. Same with milk coupons. You see them rarely but they do exist. Shop around. You can score milk at Aldis for $1.50 a gallon as a norm. Buy 4 and freeze 3.

So, what do you think about the "doubters"? We were the same at some point in time right? Now we know better and thankfully we were not as bullheaded and skeptical as these commenters were. Yay for us! But still it saddens me, even angers me a little. The reason why? Manufacturers can charge whatever they want because people like this and a majority of the masses will just pay it because they think they have to. They don't and if they would take a stand, we would see a major overhaul in the raping of American wallets, not only in our grocery budgets but in all aspects of spending money on necessities.

There is nothing here that I didn't already point out in this post, that was free. I got the Propels free with a little overage from some coupons a fellower couponer gave me (speedway insider) and the 3 Buddies Soaps with the $2.50/3 catalina. I did have to buy Marv a cell phone charger and it was $12.99. My total after all coupons AND tax was $11.78. So, without the charger I would have had to buy a filler or I would have had a negative balance.

It takes a little bit of jumping through hoops to add all the eCoupons to your card AND get all of your paper coupons together but if it's free, it's for me!!! Oh, I think I left off the cookie mixes in the first post. Those are $0.30 with the eCoupon and a paper combined.

A Stranger Among Us : Part I

Tuesday was a normal day, monotaneous to any other, except that I was asked to go to my FIL's house to change the oil in my van. I didn't want to go but I did. I should not have fought it and left sooner, maybe he would have overlooked me.

On my way there, a strange man entered my van. Well, he is not exactly a stranger. I have met him before. A few times actually. He looks eerily familiar but acts strange to me.

He scares me.

He has been here now for 4 days, with him he brings change and uncertainty.

He makes it a point to go out of his way to be nonchalant and uncaring.

Why has he come here? Why will he not leave?

He behaves like the quintessential quiet killer of Columbine. Unpredictable and emotionless.

Again, he scares me.

Everyday he leaves and everyday he comes back. He walks right into our home like he owns the place and has not invaded us, like some freak science fiction alien movie.

When he is here I tiptoe around him, fearful to bring attention to myself. When he leaves, I do not breath a sigh of relief, I cry.

I seek the comfort and reassurance of the one I love but he is never here when the stranger invades.

Somehow I must invite this stranger to be with me. Not a verbal invitation but through my actions he must feel free to turn my comfortable world upside down.

I am the only one who can see him, to everyone else he is just himself, whoever that may be.

How can I show this stranger he is not welcome in my home, when I am afraid of him? Afraid of the power he has to change my future to something I do not wish for?

Why has he shown himself to me again, when I had forgotten he even existed? What could I have possibly done or asked for that was so wrong as to invite him to plague me in this way?

Does he have feelings I wonder?

Does he have feelings of loathe and hate for me or does he feel nothing? Can he even see how his presence effects me?

The stranger will inevitably come back and I fear he will change me forever. I can feel the emptiness he leaves behind starting to consume me, to depress me.

I wish he would just leave me alone.

BEWARE : Westmoreland Foodland II

I went into Foodland in Westmoreland on Thursday. I posted that trip below.

I went again on Friday. I did the same transaction 6 Bounty paper towels, using (5) $0.25 off any from insert and (1) $1 off from a mailer.

They were not busy and there were 2 cashiers. One checking me out and the other talking to my checkout girl. She rang up my 6 paper towels and I handed her my coupons. She scanned ALL of my coupons and my total was $2.50. I paid and walked out of the store. I looked at my receipt, knowing something was wrong. Upon further inspection only the (5) $0.25 off any coupons were taken from my total. The $1 coupon was not on there. I understand I cannot receive overage but there was no adjustment to any coupon.

I trotted back into the store and pointed out to the cashier that only 5 of my coupons were taken from my total and the $1 off coupon was not taken off. The cashier said, "One of them wouldn't scan, it said it exceeded the price of the item." I said, "Well, can I at least have my coupon back" and she opened her drawer and handed it back to me.

I have NEVER shopped at any grocery store that #1 didn't tell me my coupon wouldn't scan and #2 actually KEEP my coupon and act like everything was A-Ok.

I could have trahsed the comment but decided to approve it, so that I may make a couple comments to Anonymous.

#1) This is not my story. These things were told to me by a fellow employee. Which, from my experience so far, they are true.

#2) I have no doubt the senior discount is posted on the receipt BUT what I think you are banking on is that most people don't look at their receipt.

#3) I do know what liable means AND I know how to spell it. The only person who will be held liable for unhonorable actions here is Foodland and it's shotty employees.

#4) I certainly am not hurting Foodlands reputation or it's employees. Foodland's dirty stores, high prices and it's shotty employees do that all by themselves.

2 things I would like to point out. 1) I can't exactly take credit for all the free Joy dish detergent. I did buy 5 this week but these are Dee's. She offered me half of her stash of Q's and told me she was feeling under the weather so, I offered to buy hers for her. Hope you feel better soon Dee!!! 2) I am NOT for clearing the shelves but after hitting 3 Foodfairs in our area and each only having a couple bottles I found 23 at one store and I did take them all. Normally, I would NOT do this and get upset when a shelf is completely empty BUT Foodfair is notorious for not restocking AND these Q's were paid for!!

Johnson's Catalina Alert !!!

While I was at Kroger today I tried to buy 2 of the Buddies bars with the $1 off printable below. While she would not take the coupon, stating my buddies were not "baby" items ( I made her take them off my order) it spit out a catalina before I paid, for $2.50 off any 3 Johnson's or Desitin baby products.

Like I said before, "Sometimes you win, sometimes you try again." Tomorrow I will go back to the same Kroger and a new cashier will take my coupon. That's just the way it is sometimes.

As you can see here, a year ago the cat was $3/3 Johnson's and I racked up 100 + bars of soap and only paid tax. This cat is not as great but good none the less. $0.50 for 3 bars isn't shabby by any means for something that is $0.99 each as a norm.

"Every time I try to print them it says that their records show that I have printed the coupons, I have never been able to print smart source. I have cleaned out cookies and ran scans to clean out cookies, not sure what to do.

Purex Catalina

I read on some other boards and blogs that the catalina company is pulling the Purex catalina. So far, what I am gathering is that they are pulling it just for the remainder of the Daytona sale. This is not exactly the brightest idea, since the sale is only 3 more days and Purex knew the cat was out and that it would generate a massive buying spree with couponers.

IF the catalina does come back after the sale, which it very well may since the cat was suppose to be good until March some time, it may be a wise decision to get a rain check for the $2.19 price.

I got a rain check last week when one of the stores were OOS. A rain check from Kroger is good for 30 days. Assuming the cat starts printing again after the sale all is well. Then again it may not, as I hear there may be a BOGO Q coming in Sundays paper. And ofcourse we didn't get the last Purex Q in our area. Heres to hoping :)

Ask for a rain check for the sale price. If the cat starts printing again, I will let you know as soon as I hear!

Sausage Breakfast Cups

So, I did my Biscuit Baking Challenge this morning since Evan is on a 2 hour delay from school and above was my end result for the Sausage Breakfast Cups.

I tweeked the recipe just a bit by adding cheddar cheese into my egg and potato mixture. They were really yummy! Maybe next time I will not use a whole biscuit per cup, as the biscuit seemed to overwhelm the other attributes.

Dee's biscuit baking challenge was basically the same concept of using the muffin cups but instead she filled hers with sausage and gravy, baked it and then topped them with more gravy after baking. That sounds really good too!!! I am definitely going to give it a try.

Maybe I will find the time to try another recipe this weekend!!

I bought a few of the Banquets again during the Daytona sale. A couple of them were marked with the Thanks a Million sweepstakes.

Inside these boxes are 2 coupons. One for $0.35 off any Banquet Brown & Serve Sausages and $0.50 off any Banquet Family Size Entree. As we all know, with the $0.35 off Brown & Serve Coupon you will get $0.12 overage this week during the Daytona Sale at Kroger.

The coupons don't expire until March of 2011. I think I will hold onto mine for future sales, as I have 20+ boxes by now!!

According to the ConAgra web site these specially marked boxes will only be out this month. I am sure we will see a few linger beyond February but they may not be making very many.

Freezer Life Of Your Foods

So, you have an abundance of butter, cheese, biscuits and some of us even hot dogs. The question is, how long will it last in the freezer?

I did a little googling and found that most charts are pretty consistent. A few vary by a couple of months but no major discrepancy between them.

Resources here and here list hot dogs at no longer than 2 months for maximum flavor. Butter weighs in at 9 months and most cheeses at 6 months. Read more for the foods you buy!

I for one never really thought about freezer life. I thought, "if it isn't freezer burnt it's okay." And it probably is still okay to eat, just not as yummy!

College Goal Sunday is a nation-wide initiative, funded by the Lumina Foundation, which seeks to provide information about and access to Federal Financial Aid to students on underserved and underrepresented populations. The event will take place on Sunday, February 21, 2010 from 1pm – 5pm in the basement of the MCTC building (3rd Ave. and 18th St.). During College Goal Sunday, students will receive assistance completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and other financial aid paperwork. We Need A Good Cereal Deal

Ladies, we have a state of emergency! LOL. I forgot that Angie told me she was on her last box of cereal. Does anyone know who has a good deal on cereal? We need to brainstorm some scenarios! I'll have to take the time to scour some ads but thought I would ask for a little input to help her out.

I never pay more than $0.50 a box for cereal, unless I'm completely out but since I have so much stocked that isn't likely to happen. I gave away a dozen or so not too long ago and still have that much left after rotating Exp. dates.

I checked for some printables and you can get some pretty good Kellogg's coupons here if we can find them on sale. They have $2/2 , $1/1 and $1.50/2.

So, if you see a good deal on cereal be sure to leave a comment.

As the post states I was extrememly excited about the awesome deal we were receiving with their service.

Unfortunately, I received the following email:

The reason I am writing is to ask about the plan you have the phone set up on. If you are with our basic pay-as-you-go plan of 20¢ per minute, your FREE MINUTES earnings will cap out at 100. If you are on any monthly plan, you can earn up to 1500 FREE MINUTES. This is communicated in our brochure and on our website, but I wanted to reach out personally and let you know of the caps, in case you are on the Basic plan. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance.

My reply:

Thank you so much for writing! I was glad to promote your company. I am thus far extremely pleased with the service and your personal concern only furthers my trust in your company!!

I do have a question concerning the free minutes. Since, I shop almost exclusively at Kroger the free minutes is what enticed me to get the phone. I did however neglect to receive a brochure before buying the phone.

Does the free minutes cap at 100 and I cannot ever earn more with my Kroger purchases or do the minutes only cap when not being used?

If my minutes cap and I cannot earn anymore with my Kroger purchases, I can assure you this makes it not such a great deal after all. I would be very disappointed and I would not have purchased the phone to begin with or I would have returned it.

I think it was a great gesture on your part to show personal concern and contact me. I hope your company realizes what a great asset someone with your customer service abilities is to their organization but I have to show personal concern for my wallet and will anxiously await your clarification.

Kroger Triple Coupons : Wheelersburg Ohio

Ohiogirl279 shot us an email giving everyone a heads up that Kroger in Wheelersburg, Ohio will be doing Triple Coupons from Thursday 2/11 thru Sunday 2/14. You can view their ad here. Looks pretty much the same as our local ad except a bit higher in prices, about $0.30 on some items.

She also went on to let everyone know that she has been getting alot of good deals on clearanced clothing around $1 for t-shirts, pj's and shoes etc. at W.Mart in Ashland & S.Point mostly.

Coupon Swap

So the votes are in and tallied. We had 4 votes for a swap meet, 4 votes for mailed and 3 for both. In all fairness we shall basically do both. Dee had a great idea that those of you who cannot make it to the swap can email me your coupon wish list and address. No need to address it if I can get them to you via work etc ;)

Any ideas ladies?

I thought we might start out by trying to fill emailed wish lists and then our own. I know some people swap coupons for coupons, coupons for stamps and whatever else one might need. The ones who send a wish list won't have anything to swap right away but we can brainstorm and figure that out later.

Ofcourse, if I have an abundance of coupons needed by someone they are more than welcome to them ;)

We need to come up with a time and place. I thought maybe Empire Books, since the little kids can play if we want to bring them along. Please leave any ideas. We can also switch it up and meet at different places.

How often do we want to meet? Every six weeks, 2 months, you tell me. What days? Weekends are best for me in the winter months. After work and dark at 5 pm, I'm worthless! But I am sure I can manage whatever fits everyones schedules best. I can't wait for spring!!!

Do we want to meet as soon as this week? I'm game. I thought it would be fun to have everyone bring 1 item they got free or darn close to it and swap them as an ice breaker. Draw a name kinda thing.

Just shootin' some ideas out there. What are some of yours? If I make all the decisions, I get all the coupons...LOL

EDIT:

I just thought of something. This morning I had to clear my cookies, temp. internet files and my history. I was having some problems. Try printing the coupon first and if it doesn't print go into your internet options and clear your cookies etc.

Let me know if it printed for you without clearing it all out first. Just out of curiousity. I have never known this to work on bricks coupons before.

BEWARE : Westmoreland Foodland

I don't shop at Foodland. The only thing I have ever purchased there were the ICF chicken breasts. I do however venture into their store on occassion and grab an ad and see what, if anything, is worth my attention. I don't really care for the non cleanliness of the store and I wouldn't dare EVER buy anything from their deli. If it looks dirty on the outside, can you imagine what the preparation area looks like? Yuck!

My neighbor came over this evening because she locked herself out of the house. She just so happens to work at this particular Foodland and I have seen her there a couple of times.

I had a question for her. I had heard a rumor that Foodland doubles coupons $0.55 and under. She confirmed this but also proceeded to tell me why she wishes she could find another job.

She told me that Tuesday is senior discount day (10%). She said a majority of the cashiers will ring up your total, tell you the amount and after they collect your money, hit the senoir discount button. Ofcourse pocketing their tidy little profit. She told me one girl (her name was NIKKI) had the audacity to brag about loving Tuesdays and she even pocketed $400 once.

She also told me that sometimes the cashiers will add a little extra "cash back" when people do electronic checks. Again, pocketing the money.

She even told me that sometimes one of the managers will do a cash pull, pocket some of the money and just edit the register so it doesn't come up short.

Some people are outright oxygen thieves! Ofcourse it isn't right to rip off the company you work for but whatever. Stealing from innocent parties is a whole other ball game. Those little old ladies shop in that skank store on Tuesdays specifically thinking they received a discount, when what they really got was a swift kick in the butt and no one is the wiser unless they pay close attention.

I am so disgusted I am beyond words.
